• Lubricating. You should also periodically lubricate your bike chain. Use a lubricant specifically for this purpose, and wipe away any excess. Lubricant helps the bike chain move smoothly while you pedal. 
• Tightening. From time to time, you may also need to adjust the tension on your bike chain. You can do this by loosening your tire, pull back on the rear tire until the chain tightens, and then retighten the tire bolts.
