Hey guys, it's Dustin here, CEO of sixthreezero. I wanna talk to you today about eBikes, and specifically different motor sizes, talking about what's the difference between a 250-watt motor and a 500-watt motor. Well, it's easy, 250 watts. Okay, just kidding, I'll tell you specifically.
Basically, the difference is actually quite simple, it's 250 watts. But what does that mean? Translating that in terms of what is it gonna mean to the rider as I said, you have different motor sizes. A 250-watt motor, if you're doing full throttle, is going to be able to get you to a top speed of, let's say, 15 miles an hour. If you're looking at a 500-watt motor, that's gonna be able to get you to a top speed of about 20 miles an hour. Now, I'm talking full throttle, no pedaling, nothing. So that's really number one difference, is going to be top speed.
The other difference is going to be the torque of the motor, you're gonna have more power. Big difference between 250 and 500 is gonna be the ability to go uphill. Now, there is also different types of motors, and I would recommend a mid-drive motor if you're gonna be doing a lot of hills, things of that nature. But without getting too much into the specifics, if you have a 500-watt motor, taking hills, going up hills, is gonna be a little bit easier than on a 250 because it's gonna have more power. When it boils down to it, specifically the biggest difference is more power, which translates to top speed.
Now, if you are a heavier-set person, or you just have a need for speed, going to the higher-powered motor is going to be a better option because let's say the difference ... If you're 100 pounds, a 250-watt motor may be enough for you. But if you're 220 pounds, a 500-watt motor might be better for you because the top speed somebody on a 250-watt motor at 100 pounds can hit might be pretty close to the top speed somebody that's 250 pounds on a 500-watt could hit. Now, I still think the person on the 500-watt is gonna go faster, but depending on the weight of the rider, it's going to bridge that gap.
So, as I said, motor sizes, big difference between 250-watt and 500 is the power. The way this translates is basically knowing what you need, your body type, how fast you wanna go, things of that nature. And I can get into the specifics of what size motor is right for me in a different video. If you guys want, you can check that out, it'll be on our blog.
