It’s a simple fact of life: if you’re a cyclist, you will need to know how to repair a bike tire. Despite our bikes being manufactured to last longer, it is inevitable that at some point your bike will get a flat. But don’t worry! Bike tires are a simple fix and we’ll be with you every step of the way. Here are some simple tips on how to repair your broken tire:
Remove the Tire
You’ll first need to remove the tire. Hook the rounded end of one of your tire levers on the outer edge to unseat it. Hook the other end onto a spoke before hooking the rounded end of the second lever under the bead. Rotate the tire and rim clockwise until one side of the tire is off of the rim.
Find the Culprit
Carefully inspect the tire to find out why it became flat. Remove the tube and pump new air into the tire to find the leak. You can also run your fingers along the inside of the tire to ensure there are no foreign objects poking out from inside.
Patch the Tire
Thoroughly clean the punctured area with an alcohol prep pad and an emery cloth. If you use a glue-less patch, simply stick it over the hole and press it firmly into place. For a patch that needs glue, apply a thin layer and wait for it to get tacky. Then apply the patch and hold it firmly in place until it adheres.
