5 New Year's Resolutions For Cyclists

It’s a new year, which means new goals await. Of course, you don’t have to begin a resolution on January 1st. Every day presents the opportunity to usher in a year of goal setting. New Year’s resolutions for cyclists are all over the map – literally. Here are five way to bring your cycling to a new level this year:

  1. Make Cycling Friends

Does external accountability motivate you? If you’re the type of person who is more likely to go to the gym if you’re meeting a friend, joining a bike club could change the game for you. Cycling clubs usually group members by skill level. Taking to the trail (or urban pavement) with a bunch of likeminded cyclists will help you improve your form and stick to a cycling schedule.

  1. Enter an Event

Some of the best 2019 bike rides could be an organized event. Try a charity ride to get started, or enter a race if you’re already an advanced cyclist. Not only do biking events give you an opportunity to push yourself, but they often present the chance to meet other cyclists and learn about new gear. If you’ve never entered an event before, make this the year you go for it.

  1. Beat a Personal Best

Personal best records are relative, so don’t get intimidated at the idea of resolving to create one. You don’t have to be an Olympian! Setting a PB could be as simple as riding 10 times in one month. Or maybe you want to cycle your fastest 5K ever this year. Whatever your skill level, set a goal and track your progress. You’ll feel great when you beat your own record – after all, the most meaningful competitions are against yourself.

  1. Build a Custom Bike

Are you still riding around on an old single-speed? Make this the year you resolve to get around on better gear. A custom bike means not only riding more comfortably but staying safe. When you customize a cruiser, hybrid, or road bike from sixthreezero, you’re setting yourself up for a year of exciting adventures.

  1. Cover New Terrain

Stuck in a riding rut? The simplest resolution you can make is to cover some new ground… literally. Check out that national park trail you’ve been meaning to visit on the weekend or go big and make a weekend expedition to a famous cycling route. Your resolution could even be as easy as taking a left instead of a right at the end of your street to explore a new part of your town on two wheels.
