Now, buying an electric bike is a big purchase for a lot of people, and in this day and age, there's a lot of brands out there that are producing e-bikes. The reality is, going into a store you're not going to be able to see all the electric bikes that exist. You're going to only see the selection there, and a lot of electric bike brands are living online right now. So I think it's important to do your research and browse online before purchasing a bike.

Now, what do you need to know if you're going to buy an electric bike online? The reality is lots and lots of people are buying bikes online these days, especially electric bikes for the reason I just said because you can get a better selection online, find the color you want, find the motor size you want, and get it delivered straight to your door. And if you would want a professional to assemble it, there are lots of mobile assembly companies now that will do the assembly. So the benefit to buying a bike online is you can really do your research, compare models, and not have to be in the store environment to only see the bikes that particular store has. Online you can compare many models at once.

If you are going to buy a bike online, my number one suggestion is to look for a good return policy or a good warranty. Like anything else, like buying a bike or shoes, you just want to make sure that if you don't love it or if anything's wrong, you can send it back, no questions asked. That's number one. If you're going to buy a bike online, look for a good return policy. Also, make sure they have a customer service line where someone actually answers the phone. Like anything else, you want to get ahold of someone, you want to be able to get advice, so it's important that they have a phone number that's accessible and someone on the other end of that phone picks up.

The other thing I would say is look for a good resource page, meaning videos, instructions, things of that nature. This is the benefit to buying bikes online or buying products online now, is companies are putting a lot of information on the website so you can have access to it and reference the videos if you need help or fixing things. Sometimes if you buy with a store, potentially they're not going to have as good of an online presence. So anytime you have a question, you're going to have to bring it in, or they're going to fix it.

It eliminates the need to have to bring it into the store. The other thing I would say is just to make sure you know your fit if you're going to buy a bike online. The other thing I would say is you can also go into stores, bike stores, other mass-market stores, try bikes so you get a sense of what your size is. Then you can always go back online.

If you can fit a certain-sized bike in the store, then you can definitely buy it online. Again, you're going to have more selection to choose from online, but figuring out your fit first is important. Other companies have fitting tools, but that's really, really important before you buy a bike online.

Then lastly, be comfortable with the assembly process. I like to think assembling a bike is not too bad. I always say it's easier than IKEA furniture, but just make sure you understand what kind of assemble is going to be required if you so choose to do it yourself. Now, if you don't, you could take it to a local bike shop, or as I said, there are lots of mobile assemblers that exist nowadays. Because buying products online is so common, there are lots of people that specialize in building bikes, e-bikes, and even other products. So don't be scared of the assembly anymore because there are lots of ways to get it done, if not do it yourself.
