Best Bike Paths In Boston

Beantown is for baseball, beer, and Boston Common, right? What if we told you it’s also about getting some pedal time in? Because it is. There are lots of paved trails and paths in Boston made specifically for cyclists. Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned rider, the city has a trail for you. Here are some of the best cycle routes in Boston:

Jamaica Pond

Distance: 2.9 miles

Make your way to Perkins Street, which delivers you to the Jamaica Pond Boathouse and one of the most tranquil bike rides in Boston. As long as you keep to the designated bike path, you won’t be encumbered by pedestrians or cars. The nearly 3-mile route takes you around the pond and through Olmsted Park.

Neponset Trail

Distance: 2.5 Miles

Just because you’re in the city doesn’t mean you can’t find some rural routes. Neponset Trail is Exhibit A. This short trail weaves through a river sanctuary along the Neponset River and a marsh of the same name. When you’re not passing beneath towering trees you’ll be traversing across quaint wooden bridges. You can get some real fresh air and quiet time out here.

Southwest Corridor

Distance: 6 miles

Are you an architecture fanatic? Or maybe you’ve just read Jane Eyre one too many times. Either way, you might enjoy this jaunt through past some of Boston’s many Victorian homes. The Southwest Corridor is a leisurely ride, extending from Back Bay to Forest Hills. Not all bike paths in Boston blend the historic and modern – but this one does. You’ll also have views of the Hancock Tower along the way.

Paul Dudley White Bike Path

Distance: 16 miles

You can make a memorable afternoon for yourself along the Charles River when you bike the Paul Dudley White Bike Path. The path can get pretty crowded, so look out for joggers and other pedestrians who are enjoying their own river-front views. If you end the ride at Christian A. Herter Park, you can rent a kayak to continue the adventure.

Minuteman Bikeway

Distance: 10 miles

What is an exploration of Boston without a little history lesson? This paved route takes you (more or less) the same path that Paul Revere took in 1775. You won’t want to scream about the British on your ride – just pedal at your own pace and enjoy the tree-lined path. You can go all the way from Bedford to Alewife.

Think you’re ready to tackle Boston bike trails? Not so fast! Unless you have the right gear, you’re not really ready to put pedal to the path just yet. But, sixthreezero has you covered. You can find a men’s bicycle or women's bike right here. Even better – you can customize it. Our frames are available in a variety of colors for most models, and you can also pick up some accessories that make your bicycle your own.

Ready to explore beyond Boston? We have plenty of suggestions. Join our Journey Club to uncover biking locations around the world and connect with other cyclists.
