If you’ve ever ridden a bike before, you are probably familiar with all of the fun gadgets out there for cyclists. Some gadgets are a little more fun than functional which is why we’ve taken the time to let you know which are our top five favorite cycling essentials from bike gear to gear for the rider.
1. Protect Your Head
First and foremost, you need to think safety. Wearing a helmet is not optional for many reasons. We know you want to look good while you’re cruising on your favorite bike cruiser brands like the sixthreezero Classic, but we also want to make sure you get home safely. There are a lot of helmets to choose from, but we recommend choosing one that fits properly and feels comfortable. You don’t want to have any reason to not wear the helmet when you are on your bike. Most stores will be able to help you find the right size and adjust the helmet as needed.
2. Plan for Weather
Depending on where you live and cycle, the weather can be unpredictable. It is always a good idea to have cycling clothes made for any weather. Especially if you live somewhere that often has rain, a great waterproof jacket is going to be essential. Water-resistant pants or tights can also come in handy. If you plan to cycle at night, make sure you have gear with reflectors. Check out some of the sixthreezero bike cruiser accessories like our beam bug for those dark nights. Likewise, if you ride during the day and your helmet doesn’t provide enough protection for your eyes, don’t forget to bring along your favorite pair of shades.
3. Lock It Up
The one bike gear accessory you don’t want to forget at home is your bike lock. There is nothing worse than commuting with your bike only to come out at the end of the day to see that it is missing. Bike locks help keep your bike safe no matter how long you leave your bike unattended. When it comes to purchasing a lock, don’t look for what is on sale, go for something that is durable and good quality because your favorite hybrid bike deserves it.
4. Do Your Feet a Favor
Wearing proper cycling shoes can make a difference in your ability to have a smooth and comfortable ride. If you are new to cycling or just use your bike occasionally for strolling around the neighborhood, there are quite a few urban cycling shoe brands to choose from. These types of cycling shoes have soles with a solid grip, they help improve your pedaling efficiency and can be worn for walking once you hop off the bike. If you are bit more serious about your cycling, clipless cycling shoes are the way to go. The clipless shoes can dramatically improve your pedaling efficiency, but are a little awkward to wear once you are off the bike.
5. Be Prepared for a Flat
The final bike gear accessory that you must absolutely not forget, is a tire repair kit and pump. No matter what type of terrain you are cycling on, there is always the chance of a puncture in your tire. A good puncture kit should include tire levers and you will want to have patches as well. Carrying a mini tire pump is also an essential item for your bike gear!
